Dreams fuel any business. Dreams give a person the motivation and goals to succeed. There are many women who have big dreams of business ownership and owning successful, lucrative businesses!

In this troubled economy that we, as a nation, are facing today these dreams are still alive and may have been temporarily placed on hold. Here are a few tips on how to make your dreams come true –

Understand the meaning of your dreams. What kind of visions of an extraordinary future makes you feel alive when you imagine yourself in it? Write it down! When you can read your goals, they become tangible. Tangibility makes dreams closer to reality

Identifiy obstacles that stand in the way of your and the dreams you want to fulfill. Count all of your obstacles. There may be a few obstacles that you will encounter on your way to fulfilling your dream of a business owner. You have to figure out what is most important to you. Is it your dreams or what people think? There are other ways to make money, if you wanted to, but fulfilling your dream is priceless.

Set achievable goals to make your dream more real. Short-term and mid-term goals are like columns in a strong, sturdy house. They provide the foundation for your dreams to become real!

Lastly, believe that you can do it! Starting a business is like starting a new career. If you don’t believe you can do it, people around you will believe it as well. The confidence that other people have in us is only the extension of the confidence we have for ourselves.

7 Ways You Can Excel in Developing Leadership Skills

Taking on a leadership role should not make you complacent. On the contrary, it should make you work twice as hard now that your responsibilities have expanded and your role has shifted. If you want to succeed and excel as a leader, there are certain leadership characteristics you should develop. Here’s how to start:

Focus on Your Strengths
Find out what you are good at and build on it. Why try to be a pilot when you are a better engineer? You are much more likely to excel as a leader is you know what it is you can do and accept what you cannot do. You can always try to improve on you weaknesses. But, you have better chances at success if you fine tune your strengths.

Delegate
Learn to delegate. If you have no spare time to develop your weaker areas, turn to your team instead. No matter how hard you try, you simply cannot do what is physically impossible. Explore specific competencies of your team members. Develop a plan to use them to your team’s advantage.

Learn From Your Mistakes
There is no single leader in the world who is without fault. All important leaders (ie., CEOs, presidents, prime ministers, church or community leaders, etc.) have made mistakes in their lives. A good leader will treat a mistake as an opportunity for learning.

Refuse Mediocrity
Always aim for excellence. Compromising yourself for second best when you should insist (and, actually obtain) the best will show your standards are easily obtainable without a lot of effort. In the end, your team does not have to work too hard!

Be Consistent
Do not renege on your promises or turn your back against a policy as if nothing has happened. Always avoid double standards and try to be as fair as possible. If, for any reason, you feel you must make a 360-degree turn, be ready with a plausible explanation.

Practice Good People Skills
You can only excel in good leadership if people are willing to follow you. You must be able to inspire and motivate your team. Develop communication skills and maintain communication lines. If you are seen as a team player, your team will be more willing to discuss ideas with you openly.

Learn, Learn and Then Learn Some More…
You should never stop learning. Consider opportunities to expand your leadership role and find ways you can develop further. Learn new techniques in problem solving, consider new ideas or take lessons to improve your technical proficiency. By building your personal competence, you are much more able to cement your value as an excellent and competent leader.

Women Business Owners Embarking on New Initiative – Jr. Apprentice US Program

January 18, 2009– Houston, Texas: Women Business Owners (WBO) announces their newest initiative, the Jr Apprentice US Program. Jr Apprentice US program will focus on bringing together female and male entrepreneurs to educate and mentor female and male students 10 to 18 years of age within the United States that have dreams of becoming a business owner.

WBO President, Anna Campbell explains the program, “Our program is being launched in the Houston, Texas area with seminars in April, workshops in May, a two-week summer camp in July and apprenticeships from September 2009 thru June 2010. The program will then be launched in cities across the US the following year.

We are also submitting internship openings to area colleges for young adults interested in learning more about how non-profit organizations function and how they can be a leader within their community. “

WBO believes that now is the time to provide business education to those with an unlimited amount of energy, brain power and belief that everything is possible when you work hard enough to achieve it. Today’s youth are our future entrepreneurs; we will be investing our time, energy, experience and money in their future.
